Given the recent crush of news, many are asking: Do Trump voters regret it? This month, for Opinion's latest focus group, the pollster Margie Omero and I spoke with 13 self-described independents who voted for Donald Trump. There may be Trump supporters out there with regrets, but no one in this group said he or she would change their votes. Several said a version of the following: He's doing what he promised, and actual change is taking place in the country for the first time in a long time. That change might be painful, or I might not like every aspect of it, but that's what I signed up for when I voted for Trump. That said, two things in particular made some participants uneasy: Elon Musk's role and the tariffs. "Elon feels like an unstable presence in the government that I don't like," one person said. "I didn't vote for Elon Musk." Another said of the market: "Now, because of the tariffs, everybody's nervous. Nobody's sure." America today is changing very quickly and chaotically. Our focus group had an appreciation for many of these changes. But it also seems that nearly everyone, Trump voters included, is concerned about some of the same things.
