Apple’s silicon roadmap continues its relentless pace forward. With the launch of the M5 MacBook Pro, the company once again touts dramatic year-over-year performance gains.

As of late 2025, early benchmarks suggest staggering improvements, particularly in AI processing and storage speed. But for users currently running an M4 machine, a crucial question arises: Do these impressive numbers translate into a meaningful real-world upgrade?

The data suggests that for most people, the answer is a clear “no.” While Apple’s engineering achievements are undeniable, the practical benefits of upgrading from one generation to the next are becoming increasingly marginal. This highlights a growing gap between what benchmarks measure and what users actually feel.
