Wirecutter's style editor finally found her perfect pair of barrel jeans

Style supervising editor Ingela Ratledge Amundson set her sights years ago on a pair of barrel jeans. It's a particularly trendy style right now — with a distinctive curved silhouette that's meant to be worn at a jaunty ankle-ish length. And while they're cute, they're also easy to get wrong, with many pairs cropping at awkward lengths or barreling out too much.

"But I live for harpooning wardrobe white whales," writes Ingela. "And so I set off, brimming with outsized confidence, on what would become a nearly two-year quest." And while she expected this odyssey to end with some hyper-niche brand of eye-wateringly expensive prestige denim, it was just the opposite. She found her perfect match at last at … Gap.

Your daily deal: A flameless lighter

Paddywax Zapper Electric Candle Lighter
Paddywax

Unlike finicky butane lighters, electric lighters produce an arc of hot plasma instead of an actual flame, and they can't "blow out" like matches do in wind. This flameless lighter has a sleek look, it's rechargeable, and it's as reliable and easy to use as any model we've tried.
