A big upgrade for small desks

A selection of compact mechanical keyboard that we tested to find the best.
Michael Hession/NYT Wirecutter

You can do much, much better than the mushy keys on your laptop or an uncomfortable desktop keyboard. Mechanical keyboards can be a wonderful upgrade, especially if you spend most of your day click-clacking away. They feel satisfying to type on, and they're highly customizable, which makes it easy to zero in on your ideal typing experience. And compact models do all that while looking cute and taking up less precious real estate on a cramped desk.

Your daily deal: Our favorite wireless earbuds

Sony LinkBuds Fit

Senior staff writer and audio expert Lauren Dragan, who has tested nearly 2,000 pairs of headphones and earbuds, calls these wireless Bluetooth earbuds an excellent, all-purpose pair. They make music and calls sound great, they fit securely, and they come with active noise cancellation that reduces airplane and traffic din to a comfortable minimum.

One last (cute desk) thing: A candle warmer

For the uninitiated, this electric device looks like a lamp. But it uses ambient heat, rather than an open flame, to melt a candle's wax and release the scent. Our verdict after side-by-side burn tests? The hype might in fact be warranted.
